Jennifer Karsten, Pendle Hill’s new Director of Education and Dean of Students, started work in September 2010 after serving Philadelphia Yearly Meeting for two years as Director of Education. She talked with Shirley Dodson about her vision for Pendle Hill and how it grows from a range of experience, including attending Buckingham Friends School, traveling in India and Mexico, working with Outward Bound in the Pacific Northwest, and more.

Friends Journal seeks Pendle Hill stories!
The June/July 2011 issue of Friends Journal is a special thematic issue focused on Pendle Hill. Friends Journal is requesting submissions for "Pendle Hill after 80 Years": "Pendle Hill, a Quaker study, retreat, and conference center in Wallingford, Pa., was founded in 1930. What has its influence been on the Religious Society of Friends and beyond? How has it evolved? We invite articles on any aspect of the Pendle Hill experience."
Recipe: Crock Pot Apple Pear Butter

Apple pear butter is scrumptious!
This smooth, tangy, and modestly sweet spread was created by Stacy Nagel, Pendle Hill’s Kitchen Intern, and enjoyed in Pendle Hill’s dining room earlier this month. It is very adaptable. Please increase or decrease the ingredients to your taste. Any fall fruits in season can be used. The key is to taste, experiment, and adjust the flavor as desired.
