Hans Francke volunteers his furniture refurbishing expertise at Pendle Hill

Leadership in Pendle Hill's woodshop comes from Hans Francke, a volunteer who drives from Wilmington, Delaware. Hans leads furniture refurbishing crews during the Wednesday work morning to refurbish Pendle Hill's chairs, desks, and bureaus. On Monday nights there is an open woodshop for all interested members of the Pendle Hill community to work on personal projects. The woodshop, equipped with essential tools, is located on the 2nd floor of the maintenance building.

Hans cares about both the process and results of his work and says, “I strive to make high quality furniture.” He has been building since the 1970s and is active in the Delaware Woodworkers Guild.

Pendle Hill's woodworking program supports the Quaker testimony of responsible stewardship of property by repairing quality furniture that is in disrepair rather than replacing it. At the same time the program promotes the healthy practice of woodcraft.
