Spring 2010 Resident Program

"Claiming the Way Forward"

April 2 – June 12

Exploring Healing in the Quaker Tradition

Apr 2 - Jun 12, 2010 Spring 2010

Elaine Emily

The course will explore a Judeo-Christian model of healing, looking at the healing stories in the Gospels, George Fox’s Book of Miracles, and Rex Ambler’s Experiment with Light, and exploring healing techniques such as Focusing and Therapeutic Touch. We will look at how healing is manifest among us today, what it means to be a healer, and how we all have the capacity for receiving and offering healing.

Quakers and Social Action

Apr 2 - Jun 12, 2010 Spring 2010

Clinton Pettus

Out of silent and expectant worship, class members will assess their spiritual leadings to engage in social action. We will consider whether our leadings may vary according to social contexts and their impact on other people.

Claiming the Creative Path

Apr 2 - Jun 12, 2010 Spring 2010

Carol Sexton

In this course we will learn about the creative process as we engage in expressive art activities such as visual journaling, collage, painting, drawing, printmaking, and the creation of self portraits. We will seek to deepen our connection to the source of our creativity by exploring art as a spiritual practice.

Gaia's Garden: Organic Agricultural Techniques for the Home and Farm

Apr 2 - Jun 12, 2010 Spring 2010

Joel Meredith Fath

Learn how to create a living system of beneficial insects, flowers, fungi, and vegetables. We will share our own histories and read excerpts from farmers, gardeners, and Earth care communities. Other readings will concern agro-economics, bioremediation, introduction to permanent agriculture, plant guilds, and rain gardens.
