Earth Quaker Action Team invites Pendle Hillers to join July 3 Pittsburgh action

EQAT1-235x157Chris Baker Evens, a Pendle Hill 2011-2012 resident student, encourages the greater Pendle Hill community to join the Earth Quaker Action Team (EQAT) witness planned for the afternoon of Thursday, July 3, in Pittsburgh.

Since 2009 Earth Quaker Action Team (EQAT, pronounced “equate”) has called on PNC, a bank with Quaker roots and customers, to end its practice of financing coal mining companies that engage in mountaintop removal extraction processes which have polluted streams, fueled climate change, and hurt Appalachian communities.

EQAT2-235x176Since the 2014 Friends General Conference Gathering is not far from the national headquarters of PNC Bank, EQAT invites Friends to gather for prayerful protest near PNC’s headquarters following events that include storytelling at several PNC locations. Those planning to participate include present and past Pendle Hill teachers, students, staff members, and community members: Eileen Flanagan, George Lakey, Ingrid Lakey, Michael Gagné, Lola Georg, Viv Hawkins, Celia Kutz, and Walter Hjelt Sullivan. They will be joined by Kumi Naidoo, executive director of Greenpeace International, the Gathering plenary speaker that night.
