Honor the blessing of bell hooks’ memory, preparing for the academic year in community with other teachers and students.

bell hooks begins Teaching to Transgress quoting Paulo Freire: “. . . to begin always anew, to make, to reconstruct, and to not spoil, to refuse to bureaucratize the mind, to understand and to live life as a process – live to become …” As teachers and students prepare to return to another academic year, we welcome you to Pendle Hill – a place to be and become, a place to ground and re-energize in a community of educators resisting the bureaucratization of the mind.

We will share meals, brief study sessions of bell hooks’ writings on education as the practice of freedom, and substantial blocks of time to work, rest, or reflect independently preparing for the beginning of the academic year.
