Welcome women of color writers! Writing in fields dominated by white male writers, editors, and publishers can be an exhausting experience, whether in academia or other genres of fiction or non-fiction. Let us come together as women of color to share our works in progress, celebrate our diverse voices, confront our common barriers, and build a community of support for the challenges ahead. Led by a black feminist scholar-activist, this workshop offers the opportunity to share strategies for writing alternative epistemologies into, against, and through the canon. It also provides space and time to write!

Leader(s)

Melchor Hall is a Human and Organizational Development program faculty member in Fielding Graduate University’s School of Leadership Studies, where she teaches social science courses and supervises doctoral research. As a member of the Dark Room faculty seminar on race and visual studies, curated by Dr. Kimberly Juanita Brown, she also is part of a community of women of color scholars and visual artists. From that perspective, she intends to extend and expand the support mechanisms for women of color writing in the academy and outside of it, across genres. Melchor is also an alumna of the 2018 “Decolonizing Knowledge/Democratizing Knowledge” summer institute, held at Spelman College, and is committed to cultivating fertile grounds for alternative knowledges and the writing of those knowledges and related imaginings. Outside of academic contexts, Melchor is part of the Soul Fire Farm Speakers Collective, which extends the work of the farm to end racism in the food system by speaking about food justice across the country.
