Synopsis

A survey of conflict resolution in Quaker families was made in Lake Erie Yearly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends, and a comparison was made to the National Study on Family Violence. There were 130 male and 158 female respondents. The Conflict Tactics Scales were used to measure the rates of physical violence in three family relationships: spouse-to-spouse, parent-to-child, and sibling-t0-sibling. An open-ended question was used to explore alternative methods of conflict resolution. Variables of Quaker affiliation were examined for their influence on the rates of physical violence between spouses.
