Synopsis

Reflections of a Quaker: A Blank Slate Theology expresses the writer’s spiritual journey from a point when previous doctrinal beliefs were set aside to pursue religious inquiry with a “blank slate.” He found Quaker faith and practice offered “the freedom of formulating and personally claiming one’s own theology.” Expressing the importance of the interrelationship of the inward and outward or spiritual and material aspects of life, Treuer considers how science, psychology, mysticism, many religious belief systems, and personal values can shape a theology. The reader is encouraged to use these ideas to explore his or her own beliefs. Another Friend, Deborah Haines, characterizes the work: “This is a gentle, thoughtful, insightful book, infused with joy and wonder.”

Reflections of a Quaker will speak to seekers new to the spiritual path as well as seasoned Friends. Warren Treuer has been a member of Alexandria (VA) Monthly Meeting for over 30 years. He holds a Doctor of Ministry degree from Princeton Theological Seminary, as well as Master’s degrees in Sacred Theology, in Divinity and in Psychology. All of the author’s proceeds from sales are donated directly to American Friends Service Committee.
