About the Author(s)

Mary E. B. Feagins taught for many years in the Department of Foreign Languages at Guilford College. She is the wife of Carroll Feagins, Guilford Professor Emeritus of Philosophy. A member of New Garden Monthly Meeting, North Caroline Yearly Meeting (FUM), she has served on the Friends World Committee for Consultation, participated in American Friends Service Committee activities in North Carolina and Southeast Asia, and visited Friends meetings in Europe while teaching in the Guilford overseas programs. Mary Feagins’ search for meaning in everyday living found early expression in her choice of philosophy as an undergraduate and graduate major, in her letters from Germany, where she attended the University of Munich during her junior year at Goucher College (1937-38), and in her essays and poems.
