Synopsis

This book traces history on the ground in the area known to Quakers as “1652 Country,” as it was in that year that George Fox had his vision of “a great people to be gathered.” It follows George Fox’s route from Pendle Hill in Lancashire and around parts of Yorkshire and Cumbria, visiting all the significant sites. These include Brigflatts Meeting House, Firbank Fell, and Swarthmore Hall, which is where George Fox first met his future wife, Margaret Fell, and with their joint organization the Quakers became a religious society to be reckoned with.
