It also provides a sample of the journal writings that have been such an important form of Quaker expression. The book has a further aim in reflecting the distinctive character of Quakerism as a practical mysticism. Religious contemplation, that is, may not only illumine our private lives but also quicken our social conscience and open our knowledge to redemption by love.
