Rooted on a small farm in the heart of Iowa, the storied in Silent Friends take us on a profound journey not so much over distance, but through time.
The stories in this collection interweave the lives of three generations of a Quaker family who cared for that small farm, and for one another. The stories reflect the author’s deep and abiding love for the land, yet they also richly reflect the connection of people to a specific place and to each other.
Silent Friends offers a view of broad landscape and of interiors, as gentle people struggle to be fully human with themselves, their family, and neighbors.
