Synopsis

Songs of the Spirit spans generations, cultures, seasons, and a variety of theological ideas. This opening selection of songs, by and about Friends, is particularly exciting. Though Quakers have never been renowned for the musical abilities, this section opens with a letter written in 1656 to the elders at Balby, set to music by a Friend especially for this book. There are songs written about prominent Children of the Light of an earlier time. There is an early Southern Quaker hymn, and songs which speak particularly to the Friendly condition. It is hoped that these songs will encourage other musical endeavors by and about Friends.
