Synopsis

The story of an enterprise started by the Quakers in Brynmawr in south Wales in the 1920s. This former coal-mining town was amongst the worst hit by the Depression. In 1928, the Quakers started a settlement there, and decided that what the town needed most – more than education – was work. They took over disused factories and started a boot-mending business, and a furniture workshop was born.
