Synopsis

Windows and Mirrors is the American Friends Service Committee’s traveling exhibit that provides an opportunity to see ourselves in depictions of the war in Afghanistan through the eyes of artists and children. The exhibit is collaboration by over 40 artists from around the world, including U.S. students. Forty-five 4-foot by 6-foot panels memorialize Afghan civilian casualties, with each panel uniquely designed by an artist or group of artists. The exhibit also includes images collected from Afghan high school students. Two women artists, a US Iraq veteran and a high school Iraqi refugee will be creating an artistic conversation on their stories of the Iraq war. This work will also be on display along with the Afghanistan exhibit.

Along with the Windows and mirrors will be an exhibit of art work as part of the War Diaries The project brings together refugees and military veterans of the same wars to use art and storytelling in order to promote healing and understanding. The art on display at Windows and Mirrors will be a creative visual conversation between a US Iraq veteran and a young high school Iraqi refugee.
