Join us for a poignant evening dedicated to sharing memories, appreciating art, and reflecting on our peace testimony 80 since the catastrophic atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. We will hear from artist James Fuhrman on his sculptural installation at Pendle Hill titled “Hiroshima Ghosts,” and from other powerful voices on their experiences growing up at Pendle Hill alongside survivors. Together, we will delve into the enduring human impact of these devastating attacks and reflect on their significance 80 years later. This gathering will provide a space for remembrance, offering an opportunity to connect through stories and art as we reaffirm our dedication to non-violence and the abolition of nuclear weapons in the decades since this tragedy. Light refreshments will be provided.

Hiroshima Ghosts

“Hiroshima Ghosts,” a commemorative art installation at Pendle Hill by James Fuhrman

This commemorative evening builds upon the August First Monday Lecture on August 4th, on “Honoring the Past and Protecting the Future: 80 Years of Resistance Against Nuclear Weapons” with Molly McGinty and Colleen Moore, where we will explore the critical and timely topic of seeking peace in a nuclear age. Together, these two events offer an opportunity to learn, reflect, and engage with the urgent need for lasting peace and the profound lessons learned from the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. We invite you to join us for this important time of remembrance and recommitment.

James FuhrmanJames Fuhrman is profoundly involved in creating spaces of still and quiet, in making places for personal reflection and contemplation so that they ask us to pause and listen to the quiet, so that we can begin to make sense of ourselves. James has always searched for the ‘beginnings.’ What are the sources of ideas? He feels a fundamental connection to the bedrock, to deep geologic time.
