Synopsis

An important aspect to the Quaker attitude to death is concisely expressed in a phrase of William Penn – “We cannot love to live if we cannot bear to die.” But everyone has to learn how to accept the idea of their own death and, even more, how to accept the death of others, especially of those dear to them.

In Facing Death, Diana Lampen concentrates on practical ways of overcoming the natural fear we feel at the prospect of dying, and the grief we experience through the death of others. She draws on her wide experience of the ways in which people find comfort and strength. The writing is illuminated throughout by her awareness of the love of God which enables people to bear to die and love to live.
