About the Author(s)

Elfrida Vipont Foulds (1902-1992) became famous as a children’s writer and an authority on Quakerism. She evoked the geography of Pendle Hill and Firbank Fell in order to inspire thoughts about how prophetic Friends fit into the natural world. Her Carnegie medal-winning children’s book The Lark on the Wing featured Kit Haverard as a Quaker schoolgirl who became a famous singer. The Oxford Companion to Children’s Literature called her book The Elephant and the Bad Baby a classic in the genre.
