What does it mean to be a witness to Truth? Thomas Gates draws from the experiences of the captive Hebrews as told in the Book of Isaiah, as well as the discoveries and practices of early Friends, to offer perspective and insights for twenty-first century Quakers who are trying to live in faithful witness to the Light. What is our testimony today, and how can we best express it in the context of a modern world filled with "false idols," such as the lure of wealth and comfort, side-by-side with overwhelming powers that wreak havoc on peace and environmental sustainability? Poised between the temptations of complacency and despair, how do we live our witness? Read more

Pendle Hill is 85 years old! Our mission, vision, and values have touched thousands of people around the world. These values, rooted in Quaker tradition, uphold education, sustainability, contemplation, social action, and spiritual seeking through study, collaborative exploration, and interaction with the natural environment.
The celebration begins on October 5th when Pendle Hill opens our unique Woodworkers’ Exhibition and Auction. The artists, using wood from our 300+ year old beech tree that lost one of its major limbs during a recent storm, have donated one-of-a-kind wood items created specifically for this special event. Wouldn't you like to have one of them in your home? Bid on a piece of history! Read more

Doug Gwyn, longtime Quaker and former Cadbury Scholar and Pendle Hill staff member, returns for our 85th anniversary. This summer, Pendle Hill offered our Answering the Call to Radical Faithfulness course for the first time. This, our first extended online/on-campus interfaith program in spirituality, grassroots organizing, and nonviolent action, was powerful for leaders and participants alike. Pendle Hill has made some curriculum refinements and is spending September recruiting, admitting, and orienting new students before the next round of the program begins anew in October. There are still a few slots left, and some scholarship money is available. Please contact Steve Chase, Director of Education, at ext. 123 for more information. Read more

Have you heard what happened!? Pendle Hill's budget year ended in August with another year of growth and "good news." In fact, our financial performance for the year was $80,000+ better than budgeted! We put new roofs on our buildings, brought Wi-Fi to the entire campus, and are adding rooms with increased accessibility. (To celebrate, we took a day off and lunched at an arboretum together as a community…)
We give thanks to the 109 donors who gave to Pendle Hill for the first time this year, the 10 foundation grantors, and, of course, our many loyal and generous ongoing supporters; our community is feeling grateful and well-used. Read more
